Abahani Limited pulled off a crucial victory over Legends of Rupganj in their Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League Twenty20 match to stay alive in the title hunt in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Thursday.
Rupganj’s defeat against Abahani, their last match of the group stage, means they have finished the league in the bottom three (10th) in the points table with seven points from 11 games and will now play the relegation league with 11th placed Old DOHS (six points) and Partex Sporting Club (one point).
In the first match of the day, Prime Bank Cricket Club retained top spot with a comfortable win against Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity, while Gazi Group Cricketers won the last game of the day.
Meanwhile, all the other matches at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan and BKSP 4 – between Old DOHS and Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club, Brothers Union and Lt. Shekih Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited, and Shinepukur Cricket Club and Partex – were interrupted due to rain and later, no result was declared for all three.
However, Brothers opener Mizanur Rahman scored a magnificent hundred, first in this season’s DPL, as the right-hander smashed an unbeaten 100 off just 65 deliveries with 13 fours and three sixes.
