BGMEA urges buyers not to penalize suppliers for lockdown-induced delays

Production level has fallen while cost of operation has increased, says BGMEA President Faruque Hassan

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has written to buyers’ representatives, through the Buyers Forum and individual buyers, requesting them not to penalize suppliers for any reasonable delays caused by the nationwide lockdown.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan on Sunday said they wrote the letter taking stock of the current situation.

Many factories now have a huge backlog of orders due to the recent strict countrywide lockdown, he said.

“The RMG industry resumed operations today [Sunday]. Production levels at many factories have significantly fallen while maintaining health protocols. However, the cost of operation has increased due to workers’ transportation requirements and other issues,” said the BGMEA president.
