India won’t travel to Pakistan for 2023 Asia Cup

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the announcement on Wednesday. BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary said that their decision is “in the interest of cricket and public at large”.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani responded by saying that he was “disappointed” and “surprised” with the decision.

Pakistan has hosted the Asia Cup twice before, in 2004 and 2016. The last time India played in Pakistan was a one-day international series in 2007, which was abandoned after a suicide attack outside the stadium.

India has pulled out of the 2023 Asia Cup in Pakistan. This is because of the tension between India and Pakistan due to the Pulwama attack.

This decision was taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after a meeting on Friday, February 22, 2019. The BCCI secretary Amitabh Chaudhary said that “the Board unanimously decided that India will not participate in the proposed Asia Cup tournament to be held in September this year.”

The BCCI’s decision has been criticised by many people on social media. They say that it is an overreaction and will not solve anything.
